President’s Message

I’m excited to step into the role of President of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association. Having coached at Lexington High School since 2010, I understand and appreciate the dedication and commitment it takes to coach high school basketball successfully. This year, my focus is on growing our membership, providing stronger support for new coaches, and working closely with the MIAA to address the issues that matter most to us. By staying connected and supporting one another, we can ensure our coaching community—and the sport we love—thrives both on and off the court.

For more than 60 years, the MBCA has stood alongside the dedicated men and women who coach high school basketball across Massachusetts. As we look ahead to the upcoming season, we recognize the time and energy you’re already investing—whether it’s planning preseason workouts, building schedules, or mentoring athletes off the court. The MBCA remains focused on supporting your work, promoting your voice, and protecting the game we all care about.

I’m proud to introduce this year’s Hall of Fame inductees: Dick Bliss of Hopkinton High School, Paul Connolly of Newton North High School, and Steve Harrington of Watertown High School. Each has devoted over 30 years to coaching high school basketball, making lasting impacts on their programs and communities. Alongside this distinguished class, we will also recognize more than 40 coaches with awards including “Coach of the Year,” “Assistant Coach of the Year,” and “Victory Club” milestones. These honorees and their families will be celebrated at our annual MBCA Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday, November 23, at The College of the Holy Cross. Thank you to everyone who submitted nominations—this process relies on the participation of our members. You can find the full list of award recipients in this newsletter.

As the school year gets underway, I encourage you to join or renew your MBCA membership for the upcoming season. We’re once again offering a school membership package that allows you and your entire coaching staff to join at a reduced rate. If your school is unable to participate in the group option, individual memberships are also available and provide full access to all member benefits. Beyond having a voice in shaping the future of basketball in Massachusetts, your membership ensures that both you and your players are eligible for MBCA’s end-of-season awards—recognition that makes membership a valuable investment.

Finally, I invite you to get involved with the association. Our Executive Board is always looking for members to step up—whether as league representatives, district coordinators, or simply willing volunteers. If you have questions, ideas, or an interest in contributing to MBCA’s efforts, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we will continue to build a strong and supportive community for Massachusetts basketball coaches.

Sincerely,
Reggie Hobbs
